I had heard of the popular songs by Outkast growing up, but it was only the fall of this year (2025) where I started actively looking into them as a band and as solo musicians. I found the Speakerboxx/The Love Below joint album in my mom's cd collection and downloaded the song onto my phone to listen to after quitting music streaming.

I didn't really think much of listening to the full album until one day while I was riding home on the subway. Either Reset or Unhappy by Big Boi came up next on the queue... and I was blown away from what I was hearing. It was nothing I had heard before! I immediately listened to the full album on the way home and became obsessed.

One thing that stumps me about these albums are how they are simply categorized as rap/hiphop. There is so much diversity in speed, content, and instruments. For example, Bust is like this gospel punk rock anthem that stops you in your tracks. It gets lost when it's thrown away under a category like "Rhythm and Blues".
